Language And Its Accents

Accents! There are loads of accents across the world and are due to the geographical location, culture and unique characteristics of a certain language. This further emphasizes the beautiful variety and vastness among the peoples of the world.

There are however some famous accents found in certain parts of the world where by though one speaks their second or third language, the listeners can still figure out their mother tongue due to the accent used.

Common Accents Include;

  • British English
  • American English
  • French
  • German
  • Australian English

The above are some of the commonest languages that have a strong accent that influences certain people’s speech even while speaking a different language. For example, it’s easy to tell a French man even when the language he’s speaking is not French by his accent.

However, accents might differ even in the case of the same language. Yes, this happens to at times and is caused by many factors that might include geographical differences. For example, Germans in Berlin found in the northeast have a German accent varying from that of the Bavarians in south east. One can say that the German in Berlin is a bit modernized while that of Bavaria is rich and rough.

Why Accents May Disrupt Communication?

Without communication there would hardly be anything going on or being done and may be everything would fall apart. And therefore everything has to be done for purposes of effective communication.

Unfortunately at times people of the same language might fail to understand each other to the fullest as a result of different accents and that is why hired interpreters who are not exposed to foreign regions find it hard while interpreting for certain audiences.

Non connection of accents causes misinterpretations and misunderstandings thus undermining communication since the message intended for the audiences might not come out as the source intended it to be.
That is why at all times where communication is concerned, it is only advisable that professional and qualified translation services and interpretation services are employed.

People aspiring to become professional translators should think of traveling more to foreign countries and regions for exposure. Once one listens to people from different countries speak a common language, they learn to understand the various accents; remedy for professional interpreters and translators.
